Movement is Medicine™ Summit
HNF is excited to announce the Movement is Medicine™ Summit, being held at Ability360 Sports & Fitness Center in Phoenix, AZ, on November 8-9.
“If you don’t use it, you’ll lose it!” The relationship between exercise and CMT is complicated. Some in our community train for marathons. HNF Founder and CEO Allison Moore accomplished a lifetime goal of completing the New York City Marathon last fall. Others have experienced a gradual loss of that level of mobility as CMT has progressed, and a marathon is not in the picture.
What research does tell us is that movement and exercise, adapted to individual ability, are essential for people with CMT to maintain muscle tone and function. With that in mind, HNF is excited to announce the Movement is Medicine Summit, a patient-focused event being held at Ability360 Sports and Fitness Center in Phoenix, AZ on November 8 and 9, 2019. The fully adaptive facility provides a welcoming, judgment-free environment to try new activities and learn from other people with CMT and from trainers who understand disability firsthand.
What to Expect
The Movement is Medicine Summit is a two-day interactive event featuring inspirational speakers, skilled instructors, and breakout sessions designed specifically for the CMT community.
- Join others with CMT in the warm therapy pool (accessible by lift or elevator) for Ai Chi sessions focused on breathing, balance, flexibility, joint mobility, and relaxation.
- Try a Krankcycle arm crank bike for a higher-intensity option.
- Learn how to adapt yoga when balance is limited or when you use AFOs (ankle-foot orthoses, custom braces that support the lower leg and foot).
- Row on a fully accessible rowing machine or try the rock wall.
- Build gym confidence through circuit training and more.
Your two-day pass covers all sessions, breakouts, and evaluations, plus breakfast, lunch, and dinner on both days. You do not need to have CMT to attend. There will be something for everyone.
Space is limited. Reserve your spot today.
