Using Medical Cannabis for Managing Pain in Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease: Patient-Reported Outcomes

Researchers analyzed data on medical cannabis use for pain relief in people with CMT drawn from HNF’s CMT Patient Registry, GRIN. The analysis was led by Brian J. Piper, PhD, and Gregory T. Carter, MD. Results indicated that the vast majority of survey respondents reported significant pain relief, providing preliminary evidence that controlled clinical trials are warranted to evaluate this pain management approach in CMT further.

Study Objective

Chronic pain is a significant problem for many people with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (rates of pain and severity vary by subtype). This exploratory study examined patient-reported efficacy of medical cannabis for pain management in this population.
