On Tuesday, September 27, the New York State Podiatric Medical Association joined the Hereditary Neuropathy Foundation to celebrate Charcot-Marie-Tooth Awareness Month. The evening included a screening of the documentary film Bernadette, along with clinical guidance on treating CMT patients presented by Dr. Hal Ornstein of New Jersey Affiliate Foot and Ankle LLC.

NYSPMA President Dr. John Jurcisin was in attendance, and more than fifty individuals participated in this educational CMT awareness event. Hosted by Dr. and Mrs. Robert Tornambe, the evening was a success.

Dr. Ornstein led the discussion on the early signs of CMT and the importance of everyday foot care, particularly for CMT patients. CMT patients often go through years of misdiagnosis, and because most first notice symptoms in their feet, the National CMT Resource Center and Hereditary Neuropathy Foundation believe there is no better place to start an awareness mission.
