Thanks to the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), staying current on neurological conditions is easier than ever. The AAN’s magazine Neurology Now is available at NeurologyNow.com and offers both a digital (iPad-compatible) edition and a print version mailed to your home. The magazine provides patients with clear, balanced coverage of the latest advances in neurology research and treatment. Subscriptions to Neurology Now are free to individuals with a neurological disorder. Caregivers, family members, and friends in the United States are also eligible for a free subscription.

The magazine launched in 2005 to increase patient education. From ADHD to traumatic brain injury, from migraines to Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT), one in six Americans is affected by a neurological disorder or knows someone who is.

An additional benefit has been helping people feel less isolated. Neurology Now Managing Editor Mike Smolinsky explains: “When living with a chronic disease, especially one with invisible symptoms, it is important to form communities to share advice and experiences.”

In 2010, the AAN launched the Neuro Film Festival, a video contest to raise awareness about the need to support research into prevention, treatment, and cure of brain diseases. More than 300 videos were submitted since its start, with the Grand Prize being $1,000 and a trip to New Orleans.

Neurology Now also features a photo series titled “Pictures of You.” Look in the June-July 2012 issue for a spotlight on HNF’s own Allison Moore.
