The Hereditary Neuropathy Foundation (HNF) and Athena Diagnostics announced a strategic alliance to collaborate on research and expand access to genetic testing for Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT).

Genetic testing can feel like a daunting step, particularly for patients concerned about cost, access, and the potential impact of results on insurance. This partnership was designed to reduce those barriers, provide patients with meaningful information about their CMT diagnosis, and outline clear next steps, including how a patient may be eligible to participate in research and clinical trials.

Five focus areas

The alliance focuses on five key areas:

  1. Providing diagnostic insights through quality genetic testing for participants in HNF’s patient registry, GRIN
  2. Facilitating research discoveries
  3. Developing educational materials to help healthcare providers identify patients with CMT
  4. Generating publications that provide insights into the diagnosis, management, and treatment of CMT
  5. Encouraging patient enrollment in GRIN to support participation in research and clinical trials
